About Florida:

In 1513, Spanish explorer, Ponce de León became the first Westerner to reach the Florida coast. Florida would was controlled, at different times, by Spain, France, and England until Spain sold it to the United States in 1819.
In the early 1800’s U.S. government armies went to war with the Seminole Tribe, the areas indigenous culture. In 1832 the U.S. government signed a treaty in which the Seminole tribe was moved to Oklahoma in 1835, and was paid a small sum of money. The Seminole Indians language belongs to the Muskogean branch of the Hokan-Siouan linguistic stock, which had an influence over the development of early Floridian dialects.
Florida’s economy is based on tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture. Florida leads the manufacturing sector in electrical equipment and electronics, printing and publishing, transportation equipment, food processing, and machinery. Among the state’s many agricultural products are oranges, grapefruit, and other citrus, followed by potatoes, melons, strawberries, sugar cane, peanuts, dairy products, and cattle.
Places to visit include Miami Beach, famous for its “gold coast” hotel strip, palatial estates, and recreational facilities, Palm Beach, St. Augustine, and Daytona Beach which boasts a popular year-round resort. Fort Lauderdale, on the East Coast, has one of the largest marinas in the world and one of the most popular beaches in the country. Sarasota, Tampa, and St. Petersburg, on the West Coast, and the Florida Keys are also popular vacation spots.
